Cooperativa Arrocera San Salvador - Unterstützung kleiner und mittlerer Reisanbau-Betriebe

Cooperativa Arrocera San Salvador

Supporting small and medium rice farmers

Argentina

Cooperativa Arrocera San Salvador (San Salvador) is a cooperative of small and medium farmers from the province of Entre Rios, Argentina. The cooperative's main activity is rice production and commercialization. In addition, it stores and trades traditional grains (soy, wheat, corn and sorghum) and provides agricultural supplies and seeds.

San Salvador was founded in 1952 and is a member of the Association of Argentinean Cooperatives (ACA). The cooperative has its own rice mill which is used for fractioning and packaging, adding value to the rice.

Most members have little or no bargaining power for the commercialization of their products and rely on the cooperative for better marketing opportunities. Being part of the cooperative enables producers to continue getting the most out of their farms rather than having to rent them out to large multinational agro-corporations.

Small to medium rice cooperatives like San Salvador support and encourage farmers to continue with their rice cultivation. This ensures a diversified agricultural landscape in Argentina, which has seen a dramatic expansion of soy cultivation.

Cooperativa Arrocera San Salvador has been an Oikocredit partner since 2017.
