The microfinance institution (MFI) Hofokam Ltd was founded in 2003 by the Catholic Dioceses of Fort Portal, Hoima and Kasese. Hofokam is Uganda's oldest and largest rural MFI. It serves people on low incomes in rural areas in 12 extremely poor districts in Western Uganda. Approximately 70% of the population in these districts live on or below the subsistence level of US$1 a day.
Hofokam plays an important role in meeting the rising demand for financial services among rural small entrepreneurs, especially in remote rural areas.
Hofokam Ltd has been an Oikocredit partner since 2010.
